PDP tells INEC to declare Iduma Igariwe as Governor of Ebonyi state

The Independent National Electoral Commission was told by the People’s Democratic Party has to declare its candidates, Iduma Igariwe as the new Governor of Ebonyi State and Fred Udogwu as his Deputy.

Following the judgement by a Federal High Court in Abuja which  sacked Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, and his Deputy Dr Eric Igwe for defecting from the PDP to the All Progressives, the part, at a press conference on Tuesday evening,  made a submission to declare Igariwe as the new governor

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his judgement, noted that the votes which made Umahi the governor belonged to the party and could not be transferred to another party.

The Court also sacked the 17 members of the Ebonyi Assembly who also defected with the Governor and his deputy to the APC.

Ayu called on INEC to put the necessary machinery in motion to conduct fresh election into the 17 Ebonyi Assembly seats.

The suit that sacked Umahi, Igwe and the 17 members of the Ebonyi House of Assembly was instituted by the leadership of the PDP.

The PDP had prayed the court to sack the Governor, the Deputy Governor and the lawmakers for defecting to the APC with mandates they got on the platform of the PDP.
