Parick Nnaemeka Okorie known popularly as Patoranking is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter.
EARLY LIFE
Parick Nnaemeka Okorie was born on 27th May, 1990 in Ijegun-Egba, Nigeria where he was raised. Until they relocated to Ebute Metta a commercial ghetto neighborhood in Lagos. Although he hails from Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
EDUCATION
He attended Citizen Comprehensive College Epe,Lagos and Jibril Martin Memorial Grammar School in Iponri, Lagos where he attained his West African examination certificate.
CAREER
Patoranking’s career started with street jam, carnival dance and appearance in local music videos. Miming and rapping while in school and going by the name Patorico, he joined an Afro Hip Hop group called “Da Flavour Squad” emerging as the lead singer although he was the smallest. The group went from just being some kids on the block to performing at shows in Lagos and outside Lagos. He soon left the group to pursue a solo career choosing Dance hall and Reggae as his preferred genre.
His musical career officially started with underground collaborations with artists like XProject, Konga, Slam and Reggie Rockstone. Patoranking signed a record deal in 2010 with K-Solo’s Igberaga Records releasing “Up in D Club”. Growing up, he was deeply immersed in the music of Buju Banton, Lucky Dube, Tuface, Fela Kuti, and other greats of reggae, dancehall, and Afro-beat, so it was no surprise when he decided to channel these influences into his own unique style when he started releasing original music in 2012, also drawing on the influences of Nigerian fuji music for his early singles, referencing socio-political issues in his music which he has described as a morally inclined variation of dancehall.
Patoranking became a protégé of Dem Mama Records after his collaboration with Timaya on “Alubarika” which was released on 12 September 2013.The song which literally translates to “God’s Blessings” featured vocals from Timayaand in an interview, described the song as a summary of his life as a musician. The song opened doors for him in terms of building a fan base and working with established musicians.
In 2014, Patoranking signed a contract with Foston Music and on 4 February 2014, released “Girlie O” which was produced by WizzyPro. The music video for the song was shot and directed in London by Moe Musa and released on 5 February, 2014. He wrote a remix of “Girlie o” featuring Tiwa savage which was released on the 19th of May, 2014 and it turned out to win more awards than the original release, topping charts for weeks, emerging No 9 on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 chart setting him on a much larger stage and farther into limelight. In thesame year, he was featured on Seyi Shay’s “Murda” alongside Shaydee, the song which was produced by Dokta Frabz had its video released on 11 May 2014, directed by Meji Alab for JM Films.
2015 marked a successful year for Patoranking as his singles; “Daniella Whine” and “My Woman, My Everything” were chart toppers on the MTV base Official Naija Top 10 Chart. “Daniella Whine” debuted at No. 4 in May and went on to top the chart in June. “My Woman, My Everything” also made the chart when it was released, peaking at No 2 and on 9th February 2015, Patoranking took to Instagram to announce that he signed a distribution deal with VP Records.
On January 2016, Patoranking was announced as one of the Judges for the maiden edition of the singing competition The Voice Nigeria and on 1 August 2016, released his debut studio album “God over Everything” featuring guest appearances from Phyno, Wizkid, Sarkodie, Olamide, Elephant Man, and Kwam 1. The album debuted at number 4 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart.

FAMILY
Patoranking is the eldest child and first son of three children, his younger brother is Rapheal okorie while his younger sister is Sharon okorie.
PERSONAL LIFE
His stage name was given to him by a Jamaican artist who he met at Alpha Beach in Lagos. In 2011, Patoranking left his family to pursue a better life, which he later explained in an interview in 2016 was a very painful decision, he went further to say that he left because he wanted to be able to provide for the needs of his family. selling rat poison in Lagos traffic, Street hawking and Bricklaying in order to support himself. He soon travelled to Ghana where he got interested in music.
