Breakfast diplomacy — Atiku, Obi break silence on bromance
In a move that has set tongues wagging across Nigeria’s political landscape, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party leader Peter Obi were spotted sharing breakfast in Yola, Adamawa State.
While the video of their cozy dining moment fueled speculations about a potential political alliance for the 2027 presidential elections, both camps have swiftly dismissed such claims.
Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, described the meeting as a simple reunion of old friends rather than a strategic power play.

‘You will never be Nigeria’s president – Wike tells Atiku
“Obi was in Yola as the keynote speaker for the 20th anniversary of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) and its 16th Founder’s Day celebration. Atiku, being the founder of AUN, invited him to breakfast before the event. This was purely about friendship, not politics,” Ibe clarified to journalists.
Similarly, Obi’s media aide, Ibrahim Umar, rubbished the idea of a political agenda.
“It was an academic event, not a political one. People will always speculate, but there was no ulterior motive.”
Their meeting, however, has reignited debates about the future of opposition politics in Nigeria. Is this just a harmless catch-up, or could it signal a subtle nod towards future collaborations? For now, both leaders are content to let the rumors simmer while they continue to prioritize other commitments.
