Ortom urges Bello to face EFCC allegations

Chief Samuel Ortom, former Benue Governor, has publicly called upon Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, to emerge from hiding and address allegations made against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking at a thanksgiving service organized by his aides to celebrate his 63rd birthday anniversary at the Redeemed Church in Makurdi over the weekend, Ortom stressed the importance of Bello defending his administration. He cautioned that Bello’s evasion could tarnish the reputation of former governors nationwide.

Ortom implored former appointees to be forthcoming in accounting for their stewardship when required, insisting that avoidance only raises suspicions of wrongdoing.

“I want to use this opportunity to advise my younger brother and friend, Governor Yahaya Bello, not to disgrace former governors,” Ortom stated emphatically. “You don’t need to hide, you don’t need to resist arrest or anything. Go there and respond.”

Expressing difficulty in reaching Bello through conventional means, Ortom seized the opportunity to deliver his message through the press, urging Bello to heed his counsel.

In his address, Ortom expressed gratitude to the people of Benue for their unwavering support during his eight-year tenure and birthday celebration. He emphasized the challenges of leadership and appealed for continuous prayers for leaders.

Moreover, Ortom advised Benue youths against disrespecting elders on social media, urging them instead to utilize the internet for personal development and state advancement.

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondakaa, Chairman of Benue PDP, John Ngbede, and Senator Abba Moro commended Ortom for his commitment to ensuring the security of the people. They prayed for his continued contribution to the peace and progress of the state.

Ortom concluded with gratitude to God for His blessings upon his life and pledged to remain steadfast in his Christian faith.

The event concluded with prayers for Ortom’s continued impact on the state’s development and prosperity.
