Ogun hospital begins decontamination after state index case of Coronavirus

The index case of Coronavirus in Ogun state was discovered in Owokoniran Memorial Hospital, Sagamu. The hospital has now embarked on general cleansing of its facilities to prevent the spread of the disease.

It was reported that a UK returnee tested positive for COVID-19 in Sagamu area of Ogun State. The patient was earlier admitted at the Owokoniran Memorial Hospital when he started developing symptoms.

In a statement by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Gbadebo Saba, the index was taken to the hospital on March 20, after displaying symptoms of high fever, headache and general body weakness.

However, Saba said the hospital immediately alerted appropriate authorities for testing, having isolated the Coronavirus index at the time concerned authorities were being awaited for a test.

He said the healthcare workers on duty quickly identified the symptoms, saying the index was discharged to go into self-isolation at home while awaiting the result.

He disclosed that the healthcare workers who had contact with the patient wore protective gear but have been instructed to self-isolate and are being monitored closely, despite being protected.

The hospital management said it has begun a series of cleaning and decontamination since the case was confirmed.

Saba assured that the safety of staff, patients and the community at large are a priority to the hospital, as the hospital is currently cooperating with concerned health authorities to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.”
