NSCDC arrests three suspects at illegal oil refinery in Rivers State
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced the arrest of three individuals at an illegal oil refinery in Rivers State.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the corps spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Monday in Abuja.
According to Afolabi, the Illegal oil refinery site was located at Nembe/Odagwa Creek in the Etche Local Government Area of the state.
He revealed that a large dug-out reservoir, capable of holding 100,000 litres of illegally refined crude oil and padded with tarpaulin, was uncovered at the site.
“The suspects are currently assisting with all necessary information and will be charged in court after a thorough investigation,” Afolabi said.
He noted that some suspects fled the scene upon sighting the operatives, escaping through the creek.
Afolabi commended the citizens who had provided crucial information to the corps and encouraged them to continue supplying actionable intelligence that could lead to more arrests.
“Our commitment to rid the nation of all acts of economic sabotage in the oil region remains firm and we will not be deterred,” he added. “We advise those engaging in such unscrupulous business to repent or face the full wrath of the law.”
