Insecurity: Wike issues 5-day quit notice to street beggars

The political tension in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hit back at Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over his fiery comments regarding the just-concluded local government elections.

In a fierce interview, Wike criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for proceeding with the polls despite a Federal High Court judgment barring the election.

Wike’s remarks have ignited a political firestorm, with PDP Rivers branding Fubara a “hero of democracy” for standing by the Supreme Court’s mandate to hold elections and reject caretaker committees.

While violence flared in several LGAs following the election, the PDP insists Fubara’s actions align with the democratic will of Rivers people, accusing Wike and his supporters of flip-flopping on their stance.

Amid the fallout, Sydney Gbara, PDP’s state publicity secretary, urged Wike to take his grievances to court rather than derail the electoral process. With the state seeing heated clashes between supporters of the two heavyweights, the showdown has become a critical moment for Rivers State’s political landscape.

Is this the start of a major rift in Rivers PDP, or just another chapter in the power struggle between Wike and Fubara?
