Nothing Special About Us, We Had the Luck—Olivier Giroud
Despite the victory over England in the semi-final of the Qatar world cup tournament, Olivier Giroud is one Frenchman who is keeping a straight face amidst the jubilation and calling a spade a spade as he notes how luck was integral in their victory.
After France’s 2-1 victory against England in a 2022 FIFA World Cup match on Saturday, France striker Olivier Giroud remarked that his team was fortunate not to concede a second goal to force the game into going into extra time.
At the Al Bayt Stadium, France overcame England thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Aurelien Tchouameni, who each scored twice, but on the side of the English divide, luck though failed them at the eleventh hour.
During the game, England’s Harry Kane scored a penalty but also managed to miss another one that could have taken the game into extra time.
“Maybe they deserved more but at the end of the day it’s small details that make the difference at this level,” Giroud told ITV after the game.
“We have shown it again today. In the end, we were very efficient in their box. It’s football, you know, small margins.”
The former Arsenal and Chelsea star added:
“I didn’t say anything to Harry, I was just talking to the ref, but you can’t undo anything. He took the decision and then we were lucky that he didn’t put it in the back of the net.”
France will now face Morocco in the last-4 on Wednesday.
