Nigerian icons react to 2-0 win over Cameroon

Nigeria defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a 2-0 triumph in the ongoing AFCON tournament to set up a meeting with Angola in the quarter-finals, and trust Nigerians to not keep still over the important result.

In a jubilant social media post from his X account, football icon Kanu Nwankwo extended heartfelt congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their stellar performance against Cameroon in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Arsenal legend expressed his excitement, exclaiming,

“KAN U BELIEVE IT YESSSSSSSS KANU BELIEVE IT Super Eagles Nigeria are on their way to the quarterfinals #AFCON2023. Combined effort everyone @ng_supereagles, More goals ahead congratulations.”

Adding to the chorus of applause, Nigerian striker Victor Boniface, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the AFCON squad due to injury, conveyed his respect to teammate Victor Osimhen, stating, “Respect brother @victorosimhen9.”

Political figures also took to social media to commend the Super Eagles’ achievement. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), tweeted,

“Fantastic performance, Super Eagles. Let’s go and show Angola the difference. – RMK.”

Former federal lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani joined in the celebration, writing,

“Congratulations to the Super Eagles.”

The Super Eagles secured a spot in the AFCON quarterfinals and are set to face Angola in the next round.

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo Olu shared his excitement through a series of tweets from his X account.

He praised the team’s incredible display of teamwork and determination against Cameroon, highlighting standout performances from players like Osimhen, Lookman, Ekong, Bassey, and Nwabali.

The governor wished the team the best of luck in the quarterfinals, urging them to carry the momentum forward in #TotalEnergiesAFCON2023.

Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh also expressed his admiration for Victor Osimhen’s outstanding performance.

Oliseh commended Osimhen not only for his offensive and defensive contributions but also for his leadership and hunger to win, declaring,

“Bravo to our African Ballon D’or.”

Ahmed Musa, another prominent figure in Nigerian football, shared an emotional message following the Super Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Cameroon.

Musa celebrated the team’s journey to the AFCON quarterfinals, emphasizing the power of unity on the football field. He called for unity and peace in the nation, using the spirit of football to bridge divides and foster harmony.

Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo also shared her opinion after the match, taking to Twitter to praise the Super Eagles for their performance in the 2-0 victory.

For Super Falcons icon, Asisat Oshoala, she expressed optimism towards Nigeria getting into the final, however maintained some reluctance in facing African Champions, Senegal.
