Nigerian army thwarts terrorists, arrests gun runner, foils kidnap attempt
Nigerian Army troops, stationed in Taraba and Benue States, have successfully countered terrorist activities, including apprehending a gun runner and preventing a kidnapping.
According to a press release by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army troops in Taraba and Benue States have made significant progress in disrupting terrorist activities.
In Taraba State, troops, working alongside local vigilantes, arrested Mansir Mohammed, a known gun runner associated with terrorist groups, at Jalingo Motor Park.
Mohammed’s arrest led to the dismantling of his network and the recovery of firearms, including a Semi Automatic Pump Action gun and a locally made firearm, along with a vehicle, mobile phones, and cash.
Troops, under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Ali, intercepted two terrorist suspects hiding an Automatic rifle under a motorbike seat in Miyande Village, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation resulted in the seizure of an AK-47 Rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle.
Additionally, troops, commanded by Lieutenant Fatima Yusuf, successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Zaki-Biam Town, Zaki-Biam Local Government Area of Benue State.
Engaging the criminals in a shootout, one kidnapper was neutralized, and a Beretta Pistol with ammunition was recovered.
