Shortly a day after gaining qualification into the AFCON final, Nigeria flies again as D’Tigress secured a tough win against Senegal.

In a thrilling match-up at the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying event in Antwerp, Belgium, Nigeria’s Women Basketball team, D’Tigress, secured a hard-fought victory over Senegal with a score of 72-65 on Thursday.

This triumph marks Nigeria’s first win in Group A, showcasing their resilience and skill on the court.

The game commenced with the Afrobasket champions, Nigeria, taking an early lead in the first quarter, finishing 20-18. However, they faced a setback in the second quarter, trailing behind Senegal with a score of 37-46.

Despite Senegal maintaining their lead at 57-49 by the end of the third quarter, Nigeria showed determination and perseverance. Heading into the final 10 minutes, they found themselves trailing by eight points but managed to mount a remarkable comeback.

Launching into the last quarter with an impressive 11-0 run, Nigeria swiftly turned the tide of the game in their favor. This impressive display of teamwork and resilience propelled them to clinch the victory.

Amy Okonkwo emerged as a standout player for Nigeria, delivering a stellar performance with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Her exceptional skills on the court further solidified her reputation, having previously been named MVP of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in 2023.
