Murder in Nottingham puts UK city on shutdown
Three people have tragically lost their lives in Nottingham city centre, leading to the arrest of a man on suspicion of murder.
The incident unfolded early in the morning, with two individuals found dead on Ilkeston Road at around 4:00 a.m. Shortly after, police were alerted to an incident on Milton Street where a van had allegedly targeted three individuals, leaving them injured.
These individuals are currently receiving treatment at a hospital. In addition, the lifeless body of another man was discovered on Magdala Road.
A 31-year-old man has been taken into custody as the police believe the three attacks to be interconnected. Nottinghamshire Police’s Chief Constable, Kate Meynell, described the incident as “horrific and tragic” and assured the public that a dedicated team of detectives is working diligently to ascertain the exact details of what transpired. She urged the community to remain patient during the ongoing investigation.
Several roads in the city, including Ilkeston Road, Milton Street, Magdala Road, Maples Street, Woodborough Road (from the junction of Magdala Road into the city), and the junction of Parliament Street and Maid Marian Way, have been closed to facilitate the investigation.
The news of the incident has garnered the attention and concern of politicians, including Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, who expressed his thoughts for those affected and commended the emergency services for their response. Alex Norris, Labour MP for Nottingham North, took to Twitter to express his sympathy and gratitude towards the emergency responders.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their assistance to the police during the incident. Ben Bradley, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council and MP for Mansfield, described the events as “absolutely tragic” and extended his condolences to the affected individuals’ families, emphasizing the unimaginable nature of such violence on the city’s streets.
