Muhammadu Sanusi II reclaims throne as Emir of Kano

Muhammadu Sanusi II defies court ruling to reclaim his position as the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, receiving enthusiastic royal greetings from his supporters. This development comes despite a declaration from Kano State’s joint security agency, which asserted that they are upholding a court order prohibiting his reinstatement.

Emerging from the inner palace to the outer palace, where emirs traditionally greet their subjects and hold court, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was met with cheers from hundreds of supporters as he majestically rode a horse, symbolizing his regal status.

Earlier, Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo addressed the media, emphasizing that their decision to reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi II was legally sound.

He remarked,

“Nobody can change their position on the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II because they did it legally.”

Gwarzo also dismissed the court order barring the reinstatement, stating,

“The so-called court order banning them from reinstating Sanusi was not officially submitted to them, and as at the time they did the reinstatement, it was after working hours, which shows that anything coming from the court on that matter is already late.”

The situation remains tense as legal and administrative proceedings continue to unfold, with Sanusi’s supporters and state officials standing firm in their decision against the backdrop of the disputed court order.
