Mohbad: Court Holds First Preliminary Sitting, Adjourns Till Oct 13 For Hearing

The coroner’s inquest, which is investigating the circumstances surrounding the passing away of popular Nigerian singer Mohbad, has finalized the list of witnesses who will provide testimony in the case.

A first preliminary sitting was held on Friday at the Candidate Johnson Courthouse in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The lawyers made the decision in a closed-door meeting away from the newsmen.

According to the Counsel who represented Mohbad’s family, Funmi Falana, the first sitting was to determine the number of witnesses that would be present to testify in the case.

She said, “What we did today was to decide how the procedures would help to find out how and when he died in other to get justice.

We have fixed October 13th, for the next hearing and we would call our witnesses.”

She added that people should be hopeful as the coroner will ensure justice for the late singer.

“We represent the interest of Justice, let’s allow peace to reign but, justice must be served.” She said.

TopNaija recalls that Joseph Alpba, Mohbad’s father, said, on September 14, that his son died after receiving an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse on September 12, 2023,

Mohbad’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary, as claimed by the Lagos State Police Command.

Last Wednesday, Justice Mojisola Dada, the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos, established an inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding the artist’s death.

This decision came after a request by human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, for a comprehensive examination of Mohbad’s unfortunate demise.
