Mohammad Mokhber: Interesting facts about Iranian leader

Mohammad Mokhber has been appointed as the Acting President of Iran, following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on Sunday that occurred in the northwest region of the country.

Raisi’s death was officially confirmed a few hours later.

In the aftermath of Raisi’s death, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, swiftly announced Mokhber’s appointment as the country’s Acting President.

Mohammad Mokhber, who is around 68 years old, had been serving as Iran’s First Vice President since August 2021.

Originally from Khuzestan Province in Iran’s southwest, which borders Iraq and the Persian Gulf, Mokhber has a diverse background in both military and civilian roles.

During the 1980s Iran-Iraq war, he served as a member of the Revolutionary Guards’ medical corps. His civilian career spans banking, telecommunications, and management within some of Iran’s most influential organizations.

Mohammad Mokhber worked at the Mostazafan Foundation, a significant conglomerate responsible for managing the country’s mega-projects and businesses. He also held senior positions at Sina Bank and Setad. Additionally, he was involved in a notable legal dispute with mobile service providers Turkcell and South Africa’s MTN over potential market entry into Iran.

Ebrahim Raisi selected Mokhber as his Vice President due to his extensive experience and senior roles in key organizations. Mokhber’s appointment as Acting President marks a significant moment for Iran as the country navigates the aftermath of Raisi’s sudden death.
