Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh assassinated in Tehran

Tension continues to rise between warring parties of Israel and Hamas over Gaza, and now it is reported that Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh has been assassinated.

The exiled political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, is reported to have been killed in Tehran, according to Iranian state media, Press TV. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) disclosed that Haniyeh and his bodyguard were targeted in a “Zionist raid” at his residence following his attendance at the inauguration of Iran’s new president.

Haniyeh, who had been residing in Qatar, played a crucial role in mediating ceasefire talks and maintained close ties with Iran, Hamas’s primary supporter.

The attack comes months after Israeli airstrikes claimed the lives of three of Haniyeh’s sons and four of his grandchildren in April, as stated by Hamas.

The incident underscores the volatile nature of the region’s geopolitics and the precarious position of key figures in the conflict. As the world waits for more details, the implications of this high-profile assassination are likely to reverberate across the Middle East.
