Moghalu denies rumors questioning his loyalty
George Moghalu, a former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has denied rumors circulating on social media that he has defected to the opposition Labour Party (LP).
The rumors, which surfaced last week, claimed that Moghalu had left the APC for the LP. However, speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the Anambra-born politician debunked these claims, emphasizing his consistent party allegiance.
“You must understand that at my level in politics in this country, I have never jumped from one party to the other,” Moghalu stated. “However, if I must leave the APC for LP, it has to be consequent upon my signing a statement from a recognized representative or my media office. And not until that happens, I will say that I am still with the APC.”
Moghalu clarified that his current focus is on completing his law degree from a private university in Abuja and pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Abuja.
He expressed surprise at the widespread concern the rumors generated, noting that people from around the world contacted him to verify the news. Moghalu reassured them that he remains a member of the APC and explained the formal process he would follow if he ever decided to switch parties.
“The process has to do with resigning membership of where I am now, not by proxy; but by formally writing to notify my Ward about my intention to leave the party and I will make the resignation public. I may not give any reason because I am at liberty to do so as it is my fundamental right,” he explained.
Moghalu also highlighted the possibility of continuing his political career without aligning with any party, suggesting he could become an independent political influencer. He reiterated, “If I decide to leave the APC I will announce it publicly.”
Moghalu’s clear stance aims to quell the speculation and reaffirm his commitment to the APC amidst the ongoing political landscape.
