A horrifying incident in Puebla, Mexico has led to the arrest of a man dubbed the ‘Cannibal of Puebla’ for allegedly killing his wife, consuming parts of her brain in tacos, and using her skull as an ashtray.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Alvaro, was apprehended on July 2 at the couple’s residence in Puebla.

Authorities accuse Alvaro of murdering his wife, Maria Montserrat Animas Montiel, a mother of five, on June 29 while under the influence of a prohibited substance.

During the investigation, Alvaro reportedly confessed to committing the heinous act, claiming that he had received orders from Santa Muerte (Our Lady of Holy Death) and the devil to carry out the crime.

Following the killing, Alvaro allegedly dismembered Maria Montserrat’s body and placed the remains in plastic bags. Some of the bags were reportedly thrown into a nearby ravine, while the rest were kept inside the couple’s home.

Disturbing details emerged as sources close to the case revealed that Alvaro confessed to consuming parts of his wife’s brain in tacos and using a portion of her shattered skull as an ashtray. Two days after the gruesome act, he allegedly contacted one of his stepdaughters to confess his crime.

Maria Alicia Montiel Serran, the victim’s mother, expressed her grief and shock over the tragedy, recounting how Alvaro had brutally dismembered her daughter’s body with a machete, chisel, and hammer.

Maria Alicia tearfully recalled speaking to Alvaro, questioning why he committed such a horrific act against her daughter, emphasizing that Maria Montserrat was not a bad person.

According to Maria Alicia, the suspect callously admitted to the crime, stating that he killed his wife, dismembered her body, and disposed of her remains in bags in the ravine. He callously claimed that she did not suffer.

Maria Montserrat had been married to Alvaro for less than a year and leaves behind five daughters, aged 12 to 23. The youngest two lived with the couple and reportedly experienced violence and sexual harassment from Alvaro, according to their grandmother.

Family members revealed that Alvaro, a builder by profession, struggled with substance abuse and exhibited violent behavior towards his wife. The couple frequently posted about their worship of Santa Muerte on social media, and police reportedly discovered a black magic altar in their home.

Maria Alicia described Alvaro’s drug addiction and shared her concerns about his mental state, highlighting his disturbing obsession with Santa Muerte.

She emphasized her belief that justice must be served and pleaded for the return of her daughter’s remains, expressing her desire to give Maria Montserrat a proper burial.
