chelsea vs leicester city

Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi played the role of spoiler on Frank Lampard’s homecoming as Chelsea boss, as he bagged Leicester City’s second-half equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard was given a spectacular ovation by Chelsea supporters ahead of kickoff, and his side got off to the best possible start – aided by Ndidi.

The Nigerian midfielder was to lackadaisical just seven minutes into the game in west London, and on the edge of his own penalty area was robbed by Mason Mount, who fired into the net.

The England Under-21 international impressed throughout a first-half where Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes struggled to make any impact on proceedings, and will have been happy to go in only one down at the break.

But the Midlands side were far better in the second period, and head home with a share of the spoils after Ndidi made amends, directing James Maddison’s pinpoint corner past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Maddison and Jamie Vardy both had chances to win the game, but neither could find the necessary finishing touch for Rodgers’ men.

Here are the player ratings from Stamford Bridge…

Chelsea

Kepa Arrizabalaga 6

A very good goal-line keeper, but distribution and commanding the box can let him down.

Cesar Azpilicueta 6

Better at going forward this time, but got out jumped on Leicester equaliser.

Andreas Christensen 7

Looked more composed and confident in the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

Kurt Zouma 7

Earned a big cheer from Chelsea fans in first half for some typical strong defending. Good.

Emerson Palmieri 7

Good energy up and down the left flank. He has made the left back slot his own.

N’Golo Kanté 7

Denied a certain goal by Fuchs’ intervention. Chelsea so much better with him.

Jorginho 6

Booked. Shown a yellow card for brutal foul on Tielemans. Quietly effective.

Mason Mount 8 MOTM

Man of the match. Outstanding display. Made dream and just edged Maddison as MotM.

Pedro 7

Is enjoying a renaissance under Lampard. His pace and energy caused big problems.

Christian Pulisic 7

Another good display, Chelsea’s big signing is looking the part already.

Olivier Giroud 6

Good link-up play but does not look like scoring and was hooked early.

Subs used: Abraham 6 (Giroud 61), Kovacic (Jorginho 71), Willian (Pulisic 71)

Subs not used: Alonso, Barkley, Caballero, Tomori
