Manchester United vs. Arsenal: It was all for Nothing

A City disappointed…

Manchester United versus Arsenal was perhaps a game once hyped about, but that was for the nostalgia of an era long gone. An era marked by two legendary managers going at it that a lot stood at stake aside the important 3-points.

But like the current Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag said, eras come and go, and rightly so, United’s era of dominance is gone and fading from modern memory.

The Red Devils following today’s fixture versus the Gunners, have now lost 14 premier league games this season with an European spot next season now out of their own hands.

Full-time result: Man Utd 0-1 Arsenal

Though Manchester United were able to control much of the possession in the tie, a consistent running gag the Red Devils have faced this season, is conceding defensive errors leading to shots on goal. Arsenal’s first shot on goal via a Kai Havertz cross into the United box was easily finished by Leandro Trossard in the 20th minute.

From there, it became a waiting game for Arsenal who only needed to fold their arms and let Manchester United control most of the ball with little to no threat while they saw the game out.

For the North London side, it was more about taking a pragmatic approach after finding the opener, but for the North Western side, Manchester United strolled about the pitch without any inspiration to handle their visitors.

If there is anything today’s game has proven, it is that the title race will go down the wire this season, with Arsenal only needing one win to know where their fate stands as Manchester City play their next two fixtures in the coming days.

It was Manchester United’s defeat, but for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, an opportunity to see a title rival fall, fade away.
