Lagosians can’t afford not voting me for 2nd term – Sanwo-Olu [VIDEO]
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that Lagosians will miss his government if he is not allowed a second term as the governor of the state, in the forthcoming 2023 gubernatorial elections, TopNaija reports.
He made the statement on Sunrise Daily, a programme of Channels Television, on Thursday.
He also said the Lagos State Government was making strides to meet the expectations of the citizens.
According to Sanwo-Olu, his administration will finish strong at the end of his first term.
“I think we are doing a very good job, I dare say so. I think the citizens know what it is they will be missing if they don’t let us continue to wrap up all the things we are doing” he said.
When asked concerning a possible second term bid, The Governor responded that he is consulting the stakeholders on the future of the state.
“I will ask; I will consult. Citizens, how do you see it? These are some of the things; that’s how you get it down. Try and finish very strong. You will know when it is time for us to do all the politicking” In a statement on his verified Facebook page, the governor informed Lagos residents concerning the red and blue lines rail projects, the integrated transport strategies, and the ongoing road developments in Badagry and Ikorodu, embarked upon by his government.
“I also addressed the 4th Mainland Bridge which is a big project we want to deliver under Public-Private Partnerships.
“I want to say our administration is doing well, even if I do say so myself and our people can also testify to the progress we are making across board,” Sanwoolu said.
According to him, the 37 km Red Line on completion, will traverse eight stations and move passengers from Agbado through Oyingbo.
The governor said his government is ramping up the completion of the ancillary infrastructure like the train stations ahead of the planned start of the intra-city train operations by end of 2022.
He said it would cost the state up to N150bn to complete the Red and Blue Lines, adding that the investment would be worth it for the movement of over 22 million Lagosians.
Sanwo-Olu said the intra-city trains would help in decongesting traffic on the road, adding that it would be affordable for Lagosians.
When asked to give a price range, he said, “N200, N250, it (train ticket) probably won’t be more than that. The fare structure will be (determined by) where you are joining and taking off but typically it won’t be more than what you are running on your regular BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) today.
“For it to be accessible, affordability is really critical for people to want to make it a better option. You can say it is quicker, instead of you staying one hour on the road, it is going to take you 20 minutes.
“So, affordability is very critical. It is certainly not going to be in thousands, like using N5,000 on. A train journey, it is nothing close that, it is still going to be in the regular N200, that is what we are looking at.”
