Jibrin Barau urges support for Tinubu amid socio-economic crisis

Jibrin Barau, Deputy President of the Senate, has called on Nigerians to unite behind President Bola Tinubu in addressing the nation’s socio-economic difficulties.

Barau made this appeal during the inauguration of palliative distribution to constituents across seven states in the Northwest, held in Kano over the weekend.

Barau highlighted that the hardships currently faced are part of a global issue and not unique to Nigeria. He emphasized that, globally, it is common for citizens to support their leaders during tough times to overcome challenges.

The lawmaker stressed that President Tinubu requires the support of Nigerians to effectively navigate and resolve the nation’s issues. As part of Tinubu’s efforts, palliatives consisting of assorted grains are being distributed to the less privileged.

Barau noted that due to previous irregularities in the distribution of presidential palliatives, the Federal Government has restructured the process. New committees have been established to oversee and ensure a fair distribution of aid.

As Chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee for the sub-region, Barau assured that he would ensure equitable distribution of the relief commodities. The distribution commenced with 23,000 bags of 25kg rice being allocated to beneficiaries from local governments in Kano State.

Additionally, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed that President Tinubu was dissatisfied with the previous distribution methods of palliatives. This dissatisfaction led to the formation of a new federal palliative distribution committee.

Kyari announced that Kano State will soon receive 70 trucks of subsidized Federal Government rice. He also noted that the state had previously been allocated 90 trucks of food items and 70 trucks of fertilizer, which were not distributed effectively. The newly formed committee aims to ensure that aid is distributed fairly and reaches those in need across the country.
