Iyabo Ojo Hits Back at Critics Amidst Dispute with Lagos State Government
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to critics amidst her ongoing disagreement with the Lagos State government.
As previously reported by TopNaija, the actress challenged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after receiving a threat of arrest over unpaid personal income tax.
The state government issued an assessment notice requiring Iyabo Ojo to pay a total sum of N18,640,092.00 within seven days.
The notice stated that she had a tax liability of N7,376,000.00 for the year 2022 and an outstanding liability of N11,264,092 for the 2021 income year.
Taking to her Instagram page, the actress expressed her displeasure with the government’s demand, deeming it an outrageous amount.
She claimed to have previously filed a complaint about the tax issue but received no resolution. Defiantly, Iyabo Ojo declared that she would not pay anything, stating that Governor Sanwo-Olu could arrest, jail, or even kill her as she was unafraid to die.
Following her social media post, some netizens mocked and taunted the actress, reminding her of her support for the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi. However, Iyabo Ojo later deleted the post targeting Sanwo-Olu and shared a new one, affirming that she would not bow down to any tribal bigots.
She reiterated her support for Peter Obi, expressing her desire for a better Nigeria and vowing not to be afraid to speak out.
Iyabo Ojo emphasized that her beliefs would only change if Nigeria experiences renewed hope after eight years. The actress remains steadfast in her stance and continues to advocate for a better future for her country.
She wrote: “I stand & re stan obediently on my beliefs….. I can never be pressured nor shaken ……. I will never bow down to tribal bigots…. I want a better Nigeria, i don’t care whose ego gets bruised…. we can not all believe in the same thing
“I see no tribe. I only see my country, I’m a Nigerian…. I am not afraid of death, for that is inevitable…
I will never be afraid to air my opinion, for that is my right….
“I have no enemies, We may not all believe in the same course, we may not see things the same way but you’re not my enemy bcos at the end of the day, either, good or bad.. we’re in it together …. we’re all citizens of Nigeria…….
“I have empathy for my country & not for stomach infrastructure……. If after 8 years Nigeria has a renewed hope, then my beliefs may change, but till then, i obediently stand on my beliefs ….. if you didn’t make me, you can’t break me, you can take the body but never my soul.”
