Israel vs. Gaza: Jurgen Klopp slams Journalist over Salah question
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has for sometime built a profile of being quite opinionated on political matters that have sometimes earned him infamy with rival fans.
He received quite the hate when he stood on the opinion that football fans and the general public should get vaccinated during the Covid-19 pandemic era, and of course has had many of his opinions twisted for headline crackers.
However, when it came to the Israel-Gaza conflict, the German had quite some words to say to a journalist when presented the question, and he wasn’t all too happy when it related a key figure at the club in Mohamed Salah.
“This is not a politically motivated question, but Mohamed Salah posted a message on social media this week about the Israel-Gaza situation. I was just wondering how you feel about players getting involved in that sort of thing,”
The journalist questioned if it was right for a player of Mohamed Salah’s global influence to be putting up a message like that on his social media platform.
However, Jurgen Klopp took the question personal by asking the Journalist how the question on Mohamed Salah’s message on the Gaza-Israel conflict was not a politically motivated question.
The Liverpool manager then goes on to defend the Liverpool forward by praising Mohamed Salah’s character as an individual.
Jurgen Klopp goes on to ignore the question entirely by saying;
“It is very important that we have strong characters, and I was never in doubt of that, but I am really not sure if this is the right place to discuss this super super serious subject in a football environment.
“It is really nice for you that nobody asks you for your opinion in this case, so I really think we should leave it out of this room, but I was never for a second in doubt of Mo’s character or whatever.
“There is nothing to do with the message he put on.” Jurgen Klopp asserts in response.
On other related matters involving the team, Jurgen Klopp spoke on the current injury situation with Left-Back, Andrew Robertson who will be out for 12-weeks following an injury on international duty with Scotland.
On the situation, Jurgen Klopp said of the left back position;
“It’s not just Kostas. He cannot play all the games from now on. Joe Gomez can also play the position. We have Luke Chambers and other young boys. We need options so that’s good.”
Also speaking on the availability of Cody Gakpo, he said;
“Cody has trained once with the team so we will have to see. Stefan and Thiago still out. Ben Doak has a little muscle thing.”
The German also addressed the 12:30 pm kickoff again, stating;
“We booked better flights (for the South Americans). This time it was much better, they were pretty quickly on the way back to England and that makes a massive difference.”
