Inconsistent Manchester United hammered by West Ham United

If inconsistency had a synonym in football, perhaps it could share an association with premier league giants, Manchester United who after an impressive performance in keeping Liverpool at bay last weekend, have crumbled to a 2-0 defeat to East-London side, West Ham United.

Speak of an irony writing itself, with the Red Devils facing a Hammers side that suffered a 5-1 defeat to Liverpool in mid-week.

Manchester United started the game very much in fine form in the first half, registering most shots on target (3) and possession to put West Ham United under severe pressure and panic of facing certain defeat for the consecutive time running.

However, the game was very much one of those ‘an equal half for both sides’ tale as the Home team returned from the half-time break to net 2 consecutive goals against the Red Devils 15 minutes from full time whistle to steal the tie from Manchester United.

The culprits being the infamous Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus who netted roughly 5 minutes to each other to secure victory for the Hammers at the London Stadium.

From going into the half time without registering a single shot on target in the first half, West Ham United registered 6 consecutive shots on goal, with 2 seeing the net past Manchester United goalie, Andre Onana.

This leaves the Red Devils condemned to 8th place in the premier league table, with West Ham moving ahead on 2 points to sit 6th in the league table.

The result contradicts Erik ten Hag’s battle cry to the team prior before kickoff, with the Dutchman stating;

“This is a massive week, and we can change the story of the season. We have to take that opportunity”

A reversal of fortunes it is for both teams, one which Liverpool will surely rue now.
