Impeachment notice on Fubara withdrawn by 26 House Members
The Rivers State House of Assembly has retracted its impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The 26 members of the Assembly made this decision public during a session held on Wednesday, where they formally announced the withdrawal of the impeachment notice.
The reversal of the impeachment proceedings was disclosed on the floor of the House, with the lawmakers attributing their action to a recent reconciliation initiative spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu. The President had convened a pivotal meeting on Monday aimed at fostering reconciliation between the feuding parties.
The group of 26 lawmakers, known for their allegiance to former Governor Nyesom Wike, convened at the Assembly Complex for the announcement, effectively rescinding the impeachment move against Governor Fubara.
Sources have indicated that the underlying tension in Rivers State stemmed from a power struggle between Governor Fubara and Wike, who presently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The intervention by President Tinubu, acknowledged as a pivotal figure in brokering the peace deal, has seemingly diffused the escalating political discord within the state.
