IBEDC to roll out new electricity tariff for band A consumers from April 3

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has slated April 3, 2024, as the commencement date for the implementation of the new electricity tariff for Band A consumers.

This announcement comes in the wake of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) recent approval of the revised Service-based Reflective Tariff for this category of consumers.

Band A consumers using prepaid meters will be the first to encounter the tariff adjustment when making purchases via their meters from the stipulated date.

Postpaid consumers, on the other hand, will receive bills reflecting the new tariff at the end of April.

IBEDC urged its customers to visit its website to ascertain their feeder classification, determining the band they belong to under the new tariff structure.

NERC’s tariff review for Band A consumers, unveiled earlier this week, saw a substantial increase in electricity tariffs, skyrocketing by approximately 300%, from N68 per kWh to N225 per kWh.

The commission clarified that this increase exclusively impacts consumers receiving over 20 hours of electricity daily, constituting roughly 17% of electricity users nationwide.

Those in other bands, receiving fewer hours, remain unaffected by the tariff adjustment.
