"I honestly don't care" -- Wataru Endo about Liverpool competition

Wataru Endo isn’t letting the summer transfer window be of any bother to him one bit no matter the rumors circulating the online pool.

Liverpool’s Japanese midfielder, Wataru Endo, has been praised for his candid response to speculation about the club signing another defensive midfielder this summer. Endo, who joined the Reds from VfB Stuttgart last summer, has been a revelation, impressing with his consistent performances under Jürgen Klopp.

The 31-year-old quickly became one of Klopp’s most reliable players, featuring among the top 10 most-used players in the German manager’s final season at Anfield. His fitness and consistency have been key assets for Liverpool during a transitional period.

With Klopp’s departure after a nine-year tenure, Liverpool is now under the guidance of Arne Slot, who faces a crucial transfer window. Strengthening the defensive midfield is widely seen as a priority for the Dutchman.

Wataru Endo, currently on international duty with Japan, was questioned about the rumours linking several midfielders to Liverpool. His response was surprisingly open and positive.

“I don’t care about those reports, but I also think it would be better to get a No. 6 midfielder,” Endo said, via MSN.

“I think there is a possibility that they are viewing Mac Allister as a No. 6, but at the moment there aren’t many No. 6 players to begin with.

“I had the most opportunities to play, and so did Mac Allister. We also had Thiago Alcantara, but he had a lot of injuries and is set to leave the club at the end of this season.

“We also have [Stefan Bajcetic], but it’s still unclear as to whether he will be able to contribute immediately.

“Considering my age [at 31], I think it might be OK for me to get the No. 6. But if it ultimately makes the team stronger then I’m all for it, because there will be competition and I just have to win my position again. So I’m not really worried about it, and in fact I think it might be OK if I win,” Endo concluded.
