The former Bayern Munich midfielder as announced by reliable sources today, has decided to hang the boot on his professional career as a football player. This comes after 4-years on Merseyside playing for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

The decision to announce his retirement this soon comes as a huge surprise to fans as Thiago Alcantara gave no hints towards leaving the pitch side of things despite not featuring for Liverpool for almost a whole season. The news coming courtesy of Sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano, reveals the former Spain international is ready for a new chapter in football.

According to Romano, the former Barcelona star has been planning for it for a few months.

Thiago Alcantara last played professionally for Liverpool, featuring in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in a 5-minute cameo. It was his first and last appearance for the club in the 2023/24 season after sitting on the sidelines due to a lengthy injury layoff.

The 33-year-old made the move to Anfield from Bayern Munich in the 2020/21 season, featuring 98 times for the Reds throughout his stay on Merseyside, garnering domestic cup titles such as the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup title in the famous quadruple run in 2023/24 season.

The former Barca star also played in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Paris, with Alcantara scoring 3 goals and making 6 assists in his 4-seasons at Liverpool.
