“I am worried for Chelsea” — Mikel Obi
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed concern for Chelsea amidst Raheem Sterling’s dip in form in the current season.
Sterling, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer in a transfer worth £47 million, has struggled to replicate his best performances since donning the blue jersey.
Despite equaling his goal tally from the previous league season with six goals, Sterling’s overall performance has failed to match the standards set during his time with Manchester City and Liverpool.
In the recent Carabao Cup final, Sterling’s impact was minimal, leading to his substitution in the 67th minute for Christopher Nkunku.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel described Sterling as a ‘shadow of himself’ this season, criticizing his departure from the low center of gravity style that previously made him a formidable attacker.
“I think he is miles off it to be honest at this point,” Mikel remarked on the podcast. “He is not the player that we saw at Manchester City or the player that we were used to watching. A low centre of gravity, a player a bit like [Eden] Hazard.”
