How flood swept girl away in Lagos on Monday

On Monday, the flood from torrential rainfall swept away a yet-to-be-identified girl in the Akerele area of Surulere, Lagos State, TopNaija reports.

 

It was gathered that the victim was trying to navigate her way to a destination in the area in the downpour when she reportedly fell into the canal beside the Surulere Plaza and the tide of the flood swept her away.

Efforts by some residents and passersby, who rushed to the scene of the incident, to rescue the victim were said to have proved abortive.

A resident of the area, Adekunle Shokefun, said the victim fell into the canal because everywhere was flooded, adding that she could not the canal from the road.

“What I found out from people in the area was that the incident happened around the canal beside the burnt Surulere Plaza. The girl fell into the canal and the flood swept her away. Up until this moment, the girl has not been found and I know her father,” he said.

When contacted, the Director-General, Lagos Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said, “A 17-year-old girl, identified simply as Ayisat, was swept away by strong flood at Alapafuja area of the Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate.”
