Hausa Man in trouble for Supporting Peter Obi
In a modern day world, with everyone having the privilege of choice and opinion, an Hausa man finds himself in trouble for supporting Peter Obi.
The Nigerian political scene can quite be funny and dramatic at times, and one can’t blame it as it is a comedy as long as one doesn’t take the world too seriously.
The story is about a Sokoto-based man who raised alarm over receiving death threats for supporting Peter Obi, the Labor Party’s Presidential flag bearer in the 2023 elections.
He is identified as Jamilu Sufi, a Muslim of Hausa descent, who revealed this to the world and to Nigerians on Twitter.
He alleged he has been receiving calls from someone threatening to kill him.
Jamilu also revealed the person had contacted his wife and threatened to kill her too if he refuses to withdraw his support for Mr. Obi.
“I don’t succumb to blackmail and threats,” He wrote in the post.
Sufi proceeded to include the person’s phone number who had him on death threat speed dial noting that the person speaks both Igbo and Hausa fluently.
He wrote:
“It got to a point that he called my wife and threatened to kill her too. I blocked him but he and other guys continued.”
Sufi also alleged that the man also sent him voice notes through WhatsApp threatening to kill him.
The case deserves investigation by the authorities in regards to the authenticity of the threats and where it was coming from.
Acts like this brings into question the choice electorates have to be faced with in an average Nigerian election if voter freedom is only but an illusion.
The Citizens have been asked to get their voter’s card and apply for registration, but what then stands the point if scare tactics are employed to prevent them exercising their rights?
