Gunmen murder policeman, one other in Abia State

A police official providing security to a Chinese and his driver was killed on Friday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

An eyewitness who spoke to our journalist under the condition of anonymity stated that the incident occurred on Mission Hill Road at a spot where the office of the Nigeria Correctional Service is situated.

The source disclosed that the hoodlums seemed to have followed their targets from Umuahia Cosmopolitan Area before shooting at them at the scene of the incident.

The incident instigated fear among citizens of the capital city as the rumour was developed that unknown gunmen were shooting in the city.

The source stated, “The incident in Umuahia was over a white man that came out of a bank who was trailed to mission hill near prisons headquarters Umuahia.

“The white man was robbed of his cash, the policeman guarding him was killed and his driver was shot in the leg. The army came around to carry their corpse.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident.

Ogbonna declared that the incident was an armed robbery attack, stating that the hoodlums had supposedly followed the Chinese from a commercial Bank where he went to withdraw funds.
