Ford Unveils Electric Capri: A Modern Icon Reimagined for Europe

American multinational automobile manufacturer, Ford has announced the revival of the iconic Capri name with a new electric vehicle designed exclusively for the European market.

Departing significantly from its 1968 two-door fastback roots, the new Capri is a four-door electric coupe built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.

Reimagined as a “sports coupe for the family,” the new Capri boasts a contemporary design reminiscent of the Polestar 2 but with distinctive elements like bright yellow or blue paint options. It marks a departure from its rebellious origins, focusing instead on modern aesthetics and functionality.

For enhanced power and versatility, the Premium model offers all-wheel drive with two motors generating 335 horsepower. Equipped with a slightly larger 79-kWh battery, it achieves faster charging speeds (185 kW), reaching 10% to 80% charge in 26 minutes and offering a range of 368 miles (WLTP). Acceleration from 0-62 mph is swift at 5.3 seconds for the Premium model, catering to enthusiasts seeking both performance and efficiency.

Technological advancements are a hallmark of the new Capri, featuring automated lane changes, cyclist detection, and a driver’s seat with massaging functions. A 14.6-inch vertical touchscreen adds a futuristic touch, concealing a storage compartment and integrating seamlessly into the cabin’s design.

Production of the Capri will take place in Germany, with pricing starting at €49,400 ($53,590) for the base model and €53,000 ($57,490) for the Premium pack, as listed on Ford’s French website. This modern interpretation underscores Ford’s commitment to reimagining classic models for the electric age, following the recent introduction of the Explorer EV in Europe.

While enthusiasts in North America won’t have access to the Capri, European customers can anticipate its arrival as Ford continues to innovate and expand its electric vehicle lineup.
