Fire Outbreak razes ABU Zaria Senate building

A portion of the Senate Building at Ahmadu Bello University’s (ABU) Samaru Main Campus in Zaria fell victim to a fire outbreak, as confirmed by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Malam Auwalu Umar, in a statement released on Friday.

The incident, detailed in the statement, originated in a small room on the ground floor housing an Electrical Distribution Board (DB), starting around 4:15 pm. The immediate cause of the fire remained undetermined, with no reported injuries or casualties.

The blaze engulfed the Distribution Board and several aging public speaker systems within the affected area.

However, swift action from the University’s firefighting team and security personnel prevented further escalation. Remarkably, power has been reinstated to the building following the intervention.

During the incident, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala was on-site, joined by various management personnel and a multitude of sympathizers, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the collective concern for the university’s infrastructure.

As a response to the unfortunate event, the ABU Zaria management swiftly constituted a committee tasked with probing the circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak, aiming to uncover the root cause and prevent future occurrences.
