Fire guts Lagos market, destroys goods

A plaza in the popular Iyana-Iba market identified as Ayoka plaza was razed by fire in the early hours of today Monday, April 12.
TopNaija.ng correspondent gathered that, scavengers were picking burnt items from the rubbles, while affected traders were busy clearing burnt debris from their shops.
Nne Ejima, an affected trader said, “My shop wasn’t directly affected by the fire as I was able to salvage my goods before the fire got to it.
“Unfortunately, the people who helped me pack my goods stole them in the process.”
Another affected trader, Amaka, narrated, “I was getting ready for church when I received a call that the market was on fire.
“I immediately boarded a bike. When I got here, the fire was raging, my goods were burning and I could do nothing to salvage any item.”
The angry traders would not allow pictures to be taking as they openly resisted and attacked attempts.
Giving their reasons, they said the government could close the market if news of the fire incident breaks wide open.
