Adebiyi Daramola, the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has been suspended by the federal government.

Daramola was suspended alongside the registrar, Modupe Ajayi.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had dragged the VC and the bursar, Emmanuel Oresegun, to court over alleged mismanagement of the institution’s funds.

Similarly, Olusola Oyewole, the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, has been suspended over the criminal charges filed against him by the anti-graft agency.

Oyewole was in November arraigned by the EFCC before a state high court sitting in Abeokuta over alleged fraud with regards to the institution’s funds.

PUNCH reports that a letter signed by Hussaini Adamu, acting permanent secretary in the ministry of education, advised Oyewole to proceed on immediate suspension pending the “determination of the court case” against him.

“Sequel to your arraignment before an Ogun State High Court on Criminal charges by Economic for Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Monday, 24th November 2016, I am directed to convey the Honourable Minister’s approval to place you on suspension from office with immediate effect pending the determination of the Court case against you in accordance with extant rules,” the letter read.

“You are therefore directed to hand over the affairs of your office to the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the university.”
