Female Reporter Pours Her Heart Out to Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi may be an exceptional football but he wasn’t in any way prepared for the ambush by a female reporter after the match against Croatia during the post-match interview session.

In one of the best post-match interviews of the World Cup, a reporter congratulated Lionel Messi for making so many people happy.

After Argentina defeated Croatia on Tuesday night to go to the World Cup final, the 35-year-old is just one step away from completing the football trophy set.

Post-match, Television Publica reporter, Sofia Martinez made the decision to speak to the Argentina captain and reveal what was in the hearts of his fandom and her’s as she acknowledged the impact he has had on not just Argentina but the entire footballing world.

Sofia Martinez, who is a representative of the government-owned Argentine television network, was forthright with her words with the star.

As translated by a Twitter user @ksoolina, Sofia Martinez said:

“The last thing I want to tell you and it’s not a question, but I just wanted to say the World Cup final is coming and sure, we all [Argentinians] want to win the cup.

“I just want to tell you that no matter the results, there’s something that no one can take from you, and it’s the fact you resonated with Argentinians, every single one. I’m being serious.

“There’s no kid who doesn’t have your team flannel, no matter if it’s a fake, real or a made up one. Truly, you made your mark in everyone’s life. And that, to me, is beyond winning any World Cup.

“No one can take that from you and this is my gratitude, for the amount of happiness you bring to a lot of people.”

She added:

“I seriously hope you take those words into your heart because I really believe that’s more important than winning a World Cup and you already have it. So thank you, captain.”

Messi also disclosed that the final on Sunday will be his final game wearing an Argentina jersey, whether it is against France or Morocco.

“I am very happy for finishing my journey in World Cups in a final, to play the last game in a final. That is really very gratifying,” he said after Argentina’s 3-0 win against Croatia.
