Facebook is set to introduce an updated mobile video player, incorporating the vertical video format popularized by platforms like TikTok and Reels.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced the development in a recent blog post.

The revamped video player will provide a uniform vertical video view for various content types, including Reels, Facebook Live, and long-form videos.

Initially launching in the US and Canada for iOS and Android devices, the new player will roll out globally in the coming months.

Previously, Facebook employed multiple formats for video content, resulting in a fragmented user experience.

With the upcoming changes, videos will default to full-screen portrait orientation, aligning with the vertical video trend.

However, users will still have the option to view horizontal videos in full-screen landscape mode by rotating their devices.

In addition to the visual updates, the new video player will feature enhanced controls, such as a slider for navigating different parts of the video and options for pausing and rewinding.

These improvements aim to enhance user interaction and engagement with Facebook’s video content.

The introduction of the new video player reflects Facebook’s efforts to adapt to evolving user preferences and remain competitive in the dynamic social media landscape.

As video content continues to gain prominence, Facebook seeks to offer a seamless and engaging video viewing experience to its users.
