Erik ten Hag stops Bruno Fernandes' interview

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after the 3-2 win against Newcastle United last night, quickly moved to stop Bruno Fernandes‘ interview with Sky Sports.

This happened after the star midfielder was quizzed about his future at the club amidst rumors speculating on his exit this summer. The Portugal international had started answering the question before Erik ten Hag swooped in to stop him in mid-sentence.

Fernandes, who has been a standout performer in a challenging season for United, made a triumphant return to the starting lineup for their final home game of the 2023/24 season. His impressive display, featuring five chances created and 11 key passes into the final third, earned him the Player of the Match award.

Despite his crucial role, several top clubs, including Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, are reportedly interested in signing the 29-year-old midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

Additionally, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly urged Fernandes to join him at Al Nassr.

Following the win over Newcastle, Fernandes reflected on United’s difficult season and expressed his determination to secure victory in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.

“Obviously the job isn’t finished yet. We still have one game in the Premier League, then the biggest game of the season, the FA Cup final,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.

“It has been a tough season. The table shows that, and we are all aware of that. The fans have been amazing and behind us all season. We all appreciate what they have been doing for us.”

He added,

“We want to do better and do differently and they [fans] deserve that. They have been amazing for us and we had to do something. We have been trying, but results don’t show that. We have been working hard and everyone has been giving their best. It is not enough, and we have to do more.”

When asked if he would lead the club to future success, Fernandes responded,

“I will be here until I’ve said, the club needs to want me. I feel the club wants me to be part of the future, so as I said, I don’t want to be a player the club doesn’t want to have. If for some reason they don’t want to have me, I will go, but…”

At that moment, Erik ten Hag intervened, pulling Fernandes away to join the team’s lap of honour, leaving his statement unfinished and adding to the speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United.
