Elderly woman plans on leaving $2.8 M inheritance to pets after children didn’t visit when she was ill

An elderly mother from Shanghai has made the decision to leave her substantial $2.8 million fortune to her beloved pets. She believes that they have been her unwavering source of comfort throughout her old age.

According to The South China Morning Post, Ms Liu decided to exclude her three children from her will due to their lack of visits and care for her.

Initially, Ms Liu had intended to pass on her wealth to her children, but she had a change of heart because of their limited communication.

She has made it clear in her revised will that her entire fortune is to be dedicated to the well-being of her beloved pets and any potential offspring. To ensure this, she has chosen a trusted local vet clinic to oversee her inheritance and provide the necessary care for the animals.

According to Chen Kai, an official from the Will Registration Centre headquarters in Beijing, leaving all her money directly to her pets is not permitted in China.

“However, there are alternatives to solve this issue,” Kai said.

“Liu’s current will is one way and we would have advised her to appoint a person she trusts to supervise the vet clinic to ensure the pets are properly cared for.”

An official warned Ms Liu about the risks of giving all her cash to the vet clinic.

“We told Auntie Liu that if her children change their attitude towards her, she could always alter her will again,” they said.
