EFCC Arraigns Couple, One Other For Fraud

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned a couple, Simon and Dorcas Udeani, before Justice M.G. Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, after defrauding one Onugu Angela Chinyere

According to a statement issued on the EFCC’s official X (Twitter) feed on Tuesday, they were arraigned on three charges relating to collecting N2,750,000 via false pretenses in an alleged land scam.

The statement revealed that the couple pled not guilty to the accusations, after which the prosecution attorney, Nurudeen Ingawa, asked the court for a trial date, while the defence attorney, E.C. Nwauba Esq, asked for their release.

Justice Umar granted them bail in the amount of N5 million, with one surety in the same amount, and postponed the case to February 6, 2024.

In a separate case, Johnson Aniekwe was brought before Justice Cyprian Ajah of the Enugu State High Court on three counts of collecting N9,170,000 by false pretence, forgery, and impersonation.

Aniekwe pleaded not guilty to the accusations, prompting prosecutor Nurudeen Ingawa to request a trial date, while defence attorney A.G. Anyigo requested bail for the prisoner.

Justice Ajah granted bail and delayed the case to March 7, 2024.
