“We doubt he can do that.” – Church members of OAU Lecturer react to Sex-for-Marks Scandal

The church members of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) professor Richard Akindele have reacted to a leaked phone call of someone purported to be him demanding sex to upgrade a student’s scores, TOPNAIJA.NG can confirm.

A recording of Akindele, who is said to be a pastor, telling a female student he’d upgrade her scores if she agrees to have sex with him 5 times had been released to the public.

Following his wife’s defense, members of Akindele’s congregation in the Anglican Diocese of Ife, Osun State, have reacted to the recording. They say that although the voice is clearly that of Akindele’s, they feel he was set up.

Speaking to Premium Times, one of the members of his congregation said:

When we heard the news, some of us were surprised. We were at his house very early [Tuesday] morning but only met his wife who said the devil is at work to soil the name of her husband.

Another said the pastor was too “gentle for the act,” and was set up by the student. He said:

There is no need for any computer to test the voice. The voice in the leaked audio is exactly that of Reverend Richard Akindele. However, the man is too gentle for such act. The lady purposely set him up.

Another pastor in the church who referred to himself as Reverend Adeola, said the OAU lecturer is a man of God. He said:

Although, the voice I heard is that of Reverend Akindele, I doubt he can do that. I’m not in best position to speak. But what I can say for free is that I know him to be a man of God, generous and easy going.
