Buhari increases police officers’ salaries by 20%

The Federal Executive Council has approved a 20 percent increase in salaries for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Top Naija reports.

 

Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday December 15.

 

Noting that the upward review is a product of the issues raised during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020, Dingyadi stated that the decision was taken to boost the morale of police personnel across the country.

The increase will take effect from January 2022.

Formerly, TopNaija undertsnad that a recruit earns N10,115 monthly, a Police Constable II earns N42,000; Constable I,N43,998; Corporal N45,737; Sergeant, N50,534; Sergeant Major,N63,992; Inspector II/cadet Inspector, N87,000and an Inspector, N130,171.

 

New salary structure

Aside from the salary increase, the FEC meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, also approved the review of police duty tour allowance to six per cent, and the release of N1.2 billion for the payment of uninsured benefits.

Also approved by FEC is the sum of N1.2 billion for the payment of outstanding allowances.

The minister said FEC also approved a tax waiver for junior police personnel to take effect from October 2021.

He said a major highlight of the increase is the provision of a 20 percent peculiar allowance for the Police.
