Barcelona in active contact with Lionel Messi on potential return

Barcelona, the Spanish football club, is reportedly in contact with Lionel Messi about a possible return to the club. This comes after the 35-year-old Argentine forward left the Nou Camp in 2021 due to financial reasons and signed a two-year contract with Paris St-Germain (PSG).

Messi has a storied history with Barcelona, having scored 672 goals in 778 games, making him the club’s all-time top scorer. During his time with the club, he won four Champions League titles and 10 La Liga titles, as well as six Ballons d’Or.

Barcelona’s vice-president, Rafael Yuste, recently revealed that he is in contact with Messi and his family about a possible return to the club. Yuste expressed his admiration for Messi and his contributions to the club, saying “Leo and his family know the affection I have for them.”

Messi agreed to a new deal with Barcelona on reduced wages two years ago, but the contract was dependent on the club selling players to comply with new financial rules. Unfortunately, the club was unable to sell players in time, and Messi was forced to leave.

Yuste expressed his regret about this situation, saying “I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result. I’ve always had this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club.”

Despite Messi’s success at PSG, where he has scored 29 goals in 66 games, it is believed that his preference is to stay with the French club. However, with his contract set to expire this summer, the possibility of a return to Barcelona remains open.

Messi recently achieved two significant milestones, scoring his 100th international goal and his 800th career strike. These achievements have only further cemented his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

It remains to be seen whether Messi will choose to return to Barcelona or stay with PSG. However, his legacy at Barcelona is undeniable, and many fans of the club would undoubtedly welcome him back with open arms.
