Arsenal appear to have been given the advantage heading into their FA Cup 3rd round clash versus Liverpool on Sunday as Reds’ manager, Jurgen Klopp confirms an injury blow for his team.
Speaking in pre-match briefing with the press, the German confirms that Liverpool’s Hungarian midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai will be a notable absent.
Klopp also reveals that Szoboszlai is likely to be absent even in the mid-week clash versus Fulham in the EFL Semi-Final.
However, the Liverpool boss maintains a sense of optimism after both games on the midfielder’s possible return to the squad.
With key players like Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah already unavailable due to international duties, Liverpool finds themselves in a challenging position with Szoboszlai’s absence for the upcoming fixtures confirmed.
“It’s an injury. Muscle, hamstring. We will have to see. Dom is very positive, not a lot of pain but no chance for Sunday. Not for then Wednesday. Then we will see. After that, hopefully, he might be back but we don’t know.”
Regarding potential squad rotation against Arsenal, the Liverpool manager expressed uncertainty about having the freedom to rotate players.
He highlighted the team’s history of consistent rotation in the first half of the season, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a quality performance while acknowledging the impact of a well-rotated bench.
“We can line up a good team and I am sure that is what we do. If it looks like rotation I don’t know,” Klopp stated.
He acknowledged the upcoming fixtures against Fulham, stressing the team’s ambitions for both the FA Cup and league progression, deeming the upcoming match against Arsenal as a challenging draw for Liverpool.
