Argylle another Hollywood dent for Henry Cavill?

Despite Argylle coming to the screens with an interesting premise and even featuring the appearance of Superman himself; Henry Cavill, together with an ensemble cast, it wasn’t enough to guaranty its success.

“Argylle” follows the story of an author who writes espionage novels, only to find her life mirroring the events of her latest book.

While the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring A-listers like Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’Hara, Samuel L. Jackson, and Dua Lipa, the star-studded lineup hasn’t shielded it from a disappointing box office performance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy-thriller grossed a mere $5.6 million on its opening Friday in the United States, with an estimated $16.5 million domestic opening. Overseas, the numbers are equally lackluster, projected to reach just $16.9 million.

This underwhelming reception is particularly notable considering the reported blockbuster budget of $200 million, excluding marketing expenses.

Early reviews of “Argylle” have been less than favorable, with a critic score of 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the audience rating being slightly higher at 65%, the lukewarm critical reception may have influenced potential moviegoers to skip the theatrical experience.

One star who could be significantly affected by the movie’s Box Office and Critical performance, is Dua Lipa.

Dua Lipa’s involvement in the film is significant, given that acting is a relatively new venture for her. With only her second listed role on IMDb (following her portrayal as a Barbie in “Barbie”), the box office setback could potentially impact her acting career trajectory.

It also leaves a dent on Henry Cavill’s image as a leading star in a Hollywood blockbuster, with many of his movies either underperforming in theatres or being outright flops.

Henry Cavill is most famous for taking on the Superman role in the failed DCEU franchise, while also playing Napoleon Solo in “The Man from UNCLE”, another Spy thriller.
