Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow following the demise of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
In an official statement released via his verified social media handle on Saturday, Obi paid tribute to the late monarch, describing him as a devoted Nigerian who dedicated his life to the advancement of the nation.
Obi remarked that the passing of the Olubadan has left a significant void, not only within Ibadanland but across the entire country. Recognizing the late monarch’s extensive service as a legislator and his substantial contributions to national development, Obi extended his condolences to the Balogun family, the government, and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State.
Expressing his sentiments, Obi stated,
“I am saddened by the reports of the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II. He was a true Nigerian who remained committed to building a better nation for all Nigerians.”
He continued, “He served the nation as a legislator and made immense contributions to the development of the nation. His death has created a painful void, not just in Ibadanland, but in the entire nation.”
Offering his heartfelt condolences, Obi prayed for strength and solace for the Balogun family, the government, and the people of Ibadan land and Oyo State in coping with the loss.
He concluded by invoking divine blessings upon the departed monarch, saying, “May God grant him eternal rest in His Kingdom.”
