Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, has failed to qualify for the final at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
Competing in the semi-finals on Friday, Tobi Amusan clocked a time of 12.55 seconds, placing her third behind Grace Stark of the United States and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, Amusan’s primary rival, secured her place in the final by winning another semi-final heat with a season’s best of 12.35 seconds.
This result significantly diminishes Nigeria’s prospects of securing a medal at the Olympics. Amusan finished ninth overall in the semi-final standings, narrowly missing the final qualification by one spot.
The final, set for 6:35 pm on Saturday, will feature Cyrena Samba-Mayela (France), Nadine Visser (Netherlands), Grace Stark (USA), Masai Russell (USA), Alaysha Johnson (USA), Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico), Devynne Charlton (Bahamas), and Ackera Nugent (Jamaica).
