NLC shuts down Jos over electricity tariff

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has taken action against the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) in Plateau State, closing down its headquarters in protest against the recent electricity tariff hike.

Reports indicate that members of the labor union barricaded the main gate of the company, preventing staff from accessing the premises.

The shutdown comes in the wake of the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) jointly announcing plans to close offices of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) nationwide.

This action was prompted by the failure of these entities to meet the unions’ demand for a complete reversal of the electricity tariff hike.

The decision to block access to the JEDC headquarters underscores the frustration felt by labor unions and consumers alike regarding the increased electricity tariffs.
